Our Aftercare

We know that the days and weeks following the loss of a loved one can be challenging, but you do not have to face the journey through grief alone. Cindy Latzig  is our compassionate, dedicated Aftercare Coordinator. We encourage you to seek out her valuable guidance along the way. Cindy listens, suggests methods for coping, and provides helpful resources. In addition, she hosts several grief care gatherings and events throughout the year to offer those who are grieving a chance to talk about their journey, receive support, and feel less alone.

Memory Bear Workshop

We host a free memory bear workshop at the funeral home twice a year, usually in the spring and fall. This is a very special event where families create a treasured keepsake that helps bring comfort as they remember their loved one. Volunteers and volunteer staff are available at the event to help cut, design, sew, etc. It is usually on a Friday night and Saturday morning. Supper is provided that night and a light breakfast and lunch is served the following day. The lunch is donated for every memory bear workshop by Bob and Jan Quade, a family we have served in the past. Families are asked to bring clean clothing, stuffing, and any accessories that they would like to put on the bear.

Annual Remembrance Picnic and Flower Float

Our annual Remembrance Picnic and Flower Float is typically in the later part of the summer at a local park. As a special time to remember and honor loved ones who have passed, the service includes a short message from local clergy ,and then a meal is provided. Afterward, we go to a bridge and do the flower float, which is always a very meaningful, healing experience. Attendees receive a remembrance gift from the funeral home as well.

Holiday Service of Remembrance

Every other year, our funeral home hosts a Holiday Service of Remembrance, which is a candlelight service usually in Decemberto remember loved ones and to help provide a sense of comfort during the holiday season. A clergyperson from the community comesin to offer a short service on grief and the holidays, and there is always special music. A light supper and time for fellowship follows the service.

Grief Resources

All families we serve receive the Doug Manning book series, which focuses on the grief journey throughout the first year after losing a loved one, as well as letters and cards from us throughout the year. We also provide families with information on support groups, grief camps for kids, and other opportunities and resources.
