Wesley Donner Jr., 82, of Henderson, NV, formerly of Gleason, WI died September 30, 2009. Wesley was born February 27, 1927 in Merrill, WI to the late Wesley Sr. and Anna Donner. Wesley is preceded in death by his loving wife LaRue who passed away two years ago. He is survived by his four children; Nancy Donner of Henderson, NV, Ron (Jackie) Donner of Northfield, MN, Lynn Donner of Denver, CO, and Diane Donner of Madison, WI. One brother David (Carol) Donner of Merrill, WI, and one sister Donna (Jerry) Bower of Richland Center, WI., Five grandchildren, Tovah, Ariella, and Hannah Asher; Bill Claspill and Justine Ward, and one great granddaughter. He leaves behind many nieces, nephew and friends.
Wesley grew up in Merrill, traveled to Alaska after high school, and he served two years in United States Army in Washington D.C. where he met and married his wife LaRue. In 1953 they moved to Gleason where they raised their four children. Wesley farmed, he enjoyed being in the woods cutting pulp wood, and he owned and operated Donner Oil Company, a small Zephyr service station in Gleason. He was an active member of the Rhinelander Antique Auto Club. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and attending antique car rallies around northern Wisconsin. In 1979 Wesley and LaRue moved from Wisconsin to the southwest living in Las Vegas, NV, Bullhead City, AZ and Henderson, NV.
Wesley had endless stories about his life in Wisconsin, his time in Alaska, raising his family, and politics and current affairs. He enjoyed watched football and baseball, and his many visits in recent years back to Wisconsin visiting with his brother and sister.
Wesley will be laid to rest in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery next to his beloved LaRue. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 300 N. Mill St., Merrill, WI 54452. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at Waid Funeral Home. The funeral will be 10:30 AM Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Don Entenman will officiate. The Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
