Victor Raddatz

April 19, 1928 — April 10, 2019

Victor L. Raddatz, age 90, of Merrill, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill, while surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice.  He was born on April 19, 1928 to the late Friedrich and Ida (Krause) Raddatz in the town of Maine.  Victor met and fell in love with Lorraine Porath, and the two exchanged marriage vows on May 3, 1947 at the Zion Lutheran Church in the town of Maine.  She survives.

Victor worked at a variety of grocery stores, including Carl’s Food Lane, IGA, Red Owl and County Market, in the deli department as a meat cutter.  He was a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he would volunteer to help where needed and was the treasurer for 8 years.  Victor also worked at the Maple Grove Cemetery.  He was a quiet man that enjoyed being outdoors, especially caring for his lawn and keeping the birds fed.  Victor was very skilled at working with wood and making a variety of items for family and friends.  When he wasn’t busy outside, he would enjoy a few good rounds of his favorite card game, Samba.  Victor was known for making his famous ham loaves and making the best venison sausage around.  He cherished his family and looked forward to family gatherings.  He will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered.

Victor is survived by his loving wife: Lorraine Raddatz of Merrill, sons: Kenneth (Nancy) of Merrill, James (Jeri) of Wausau and Glenn (Mary) of White Bear Lake, MN, 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Delores Grund, Edna Holtz, Dorothea Sturm, Olga Raddatz, Beata Splitt and Agatha Splitt, brothers: Edwin, Bernhard, Leander, Leroy, Arnold and Ewold Raddatz.

A funeral service for Victor will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 11am at Faith Lutheran Church in the town of Maine.  The Rev. Donald Love will officiate.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 9am until the time of the service, also at the church.  Burial will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery immediately following the service.
