Steven Krause

Steven K. Krause, age 63, of Merrill, passed away in the company of beloved family early in the morning of Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born July 17, 1949 in Merrill to the late David and Shirley (Fletcher) Krause. Steve was a graduate of Merrill Senior High School, then proudly served overseas in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971, during which time on March 7, 1970, he was united in marriage to Marj Braatz. He later served as a Firefighter/EMT in Merrill for 27 years, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. When not engaged in the honorable protection of his country or local community, Steve was an avid outdoorsman who loved to take trips out west in pursuit of deer, and over the years could be found angling in his home state of Wisconsin as well as Minnesota, Canada and most recently, Michigan. He was an accomplished league bowler (member of the 700 club), and optimistic golfer. He enjoyed camping and traveling to the beaches of the Caribbean with friends and family, and was known to "occasionally" spoil his grandchildren with tootsie rolls, M&M's or ice cream. Survivors include his wife Marj Krause, Merrill; daughter Sara (Jeff Rodenberg) Elsmore, Kalamzoo, MI; son Paul (Alissa) Krause, Wausau; four grandchildren: Marley, Delaney, Asher, and Bennett; sister Nancy (Gary) Krause; and brother Craig (Geri) Krause. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-7 PM at Waid Funeral Home and again Thursday starting one hour prior to the time of service at the church, to be held at 2 PM at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ with Pastor Missy Holdorf officiating.
