Sally Pfund, age 49, of Merrill, died October 9, 2009, at
St. Joseph
’s Hospital in
Marshfield
. Sally was born December 28, 1959 in
Eau Claire
, the daughter of Hewitt Loomis and Jane (
Adams
) Loomis.
She married Mike Pfund on October 1, 1983, in Mondovi. He survives.
Sally was a 1978 graduate of
Mondovi
High School
. She then attended college at UW Eau Claire and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in teaching and also attended UW River Falls where she earned a degree in health education. Sally taught at
Marathon
High School
and since 1997 has taught at
Merrill
Senior High School
. She started the Northern Pride Volleyball Club, The Junior Jays Volleyball Club, and the traveling Lady Jays Basketball Club and was the aquatics director, a lifeguard and WSI instructor. Sally was the only teacher in the state of
Wisconsin
to teach an athletic co-op class. She was a major voice in bringing the Flex-14 scheduling to Merrill and also incorporated a swimming class for kids. Sally was a member of the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association. She was the Northern Wisconsin Volleyball Representative. Sally incorporated the Link-Crew Freshman orientation program in Merrill. She was currently the head coach of the Merrill Girl’s Volleyball Team. Sally was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Merrill. She enjoyed camping, farming with her husband Mike and spending time with her family.
Sally is survived by her husband Mike and 2 daughters: Savanah and Sarah Pfund all of Merrill. Her mother, Jane Loomis of Mondovi. 3 brothers: David (Janet) Loomis and Doug and his girlfriend Terry all of Eleva, and
Wayne
(Dotty) Loomis of Denver, CO. Also, one sister, Cindy (Jerry) Johnson of Eau Claire. She was preceded in death by her father, Hewitt, a brother, Tom Loomis and a niece, Kim Loomis.
Memorial services will be held 8:00 PM Wednesday at the
Merrill
Senior High School
gymnasium. The Rev. James Horath will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM Wednesday at the High School Gymnasium.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Northern Pride Volleyball Club or to the family.
