Roy "Butch" Edward Nichols, age 70, of Town of Schley, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011 at his home under the care of Ministry Home Care & Hospice after a long battle with cancer. Roy was born July 29, 1941, in Antigo, the son of the late Roy and Adeline (Rusch) Nichols. He married the former Sandra Wedler on January 5, 1963 in Gleason. She survives. Roy joined the U. S. Marines in 1959 and served at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, China, Japan and Viet Nam until he was honorably discharged in 1965. When he came back from the marines, he settled in Rockford, Illinois along with his wife, Sandy. He was employed as a supervisor at Saws International for over 25 years, retiring in 2002. In 2007, they moved back to the Gleason area. Roy was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church. He was an avid hunter, especially bow and arrow hunting and had made his own bows. Roy has two Pope & Young world record white tail deer that he shot with his bow and arrow. He went on several hunting trips throughout the mid-west for turkey and deer. Roy especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Roy is survived by his wife, Sandy, two daughters; Sherry (Chuck) Rotolo and Kathy Nichols, both of Rockford, Illinois, two grandchildren; Trevor Rotolo and Taylor Rotolo, both of Rockford, Illinois, and 1 brother; Glenford Nichols of Beloit, Wisconsin. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and one infant daughter, Theresa. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Gleason. The Rev. Steven Anderson will officiate. Friends may call from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the church. The Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
