Roger Clifford Dupke, 83, of Merrill, died May 7, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
Roger was born in Merrill on June 18, 1925, to the late Walter and Jenny(Lindstrom) Dupke. He married Lois Dupke on October 19, 1950 in Denver, CO. Roger served in the Army from 1943-1946 as a cook in the South Pacific. He was a Tool & Dye Maker with Merrill Mfg. for 23 years. He and three others started Wire Products in Merrill. Over the years, he owned his own Awning business as well as starting Roger C. Dupke Oil Co. in 1981, having wells in Kansas, West Virginia and Ohio. He served as an Alderman for the 4th ward for 15 years, as a Chairman for the Zoning Board of Appeals for 14 years and as a Member of the Rotary Club. Roger taught a Night Vocational School and also taught Sunday School at First Presbyterian Church where he was a Trustee. When he wasn’t busy with these activities, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife; Lois Dupke, daughters; Christine(John) Schmoeckel of Fountain Colorado, Diane(Kevin) Singelton of Denver Colorado, three sons; James(Janet) Dupke, Timothy(Jayne) Dupke, Thomas Dupke all of Merrill, 12 grandchildren and, 15 great-grandchildren, one brother; Robert Dupke of Oak park, IL and one Uncle & Aunt, Wilbert(Ruth) Lindstrom of Merrill. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Walter and Jenny Dupke.
Services will be held Tuesday, May 12 at 10:30 AM at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Don King will officiate. Visitation will be Monday, May 11 from 4-8 at Waid Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Merrill Memorial Park.
