Phillip 'Phil' Powell Sr.

Phillip ‘Phil’ R. Powell Sr., age 52, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital in Merrill.  Phil was born on April 12, 1966 to Eldon Powell and the late Sandy (Frankie) Aranza in Cocoa Beach, FL.  Phil attended and graduated from high school in Norfolk, NE.  He met Lori LaBonty and the two exchanged marriage vows on October 16, 2010 in Merrill.

Phil was employed with U.S. Securities as a security guard at Eastbay in Wausau.  He enjoyed picking up and fixing small engines.  He was a Nebraska Cornhuskers and Denver Broncos fan.  Phil was active in the RC Flyers.  He enjoyed spending time with his cat, Duke.  Phil was a member at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ in Merrill.

Phil is survived by his wife: Lori of Merrill, son: Phillip (PJ) Powell Jr. of Omaha, NE, sister: Brenda (David) Dowthitt of Neola, IA, step-daughter: Nicole Rehwinkel of Merrill and his little fur buddy: Duke – the cat.  He was preceded in death by his mother: Sandy.

Per Phil’s wishes, no services will be held.

The family would like to thank the Merrill EMTs, as well as the staff at Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital and Marshfield Clinic Merrill Center for all that they have done for the family.
