Oscar Dorn

Oscar "Ozzie" F. Dorn, age 95, of Merrill, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Bell Tower Residence in Merrill, while under the care of Interim Hospice and Palliative Care. He was born on November 15, 1921 to the late John and Margaret (Rosskopf) Dorn in Merrill, WI. Oscar attended Merrill High School and graduated with the Class of 1939. After high school he was employed by the Panama Canal Company for 7 years. He also proudly served his country in the U S Army during WWII until 1945. Oscar met and fell in love with Jean Kell, and the two exchanged vows on August 7, 1955 in the town of Corning, WI. She preceded him in death on October 27, 2004. Oscar worked for Church Mutual Insurance Company for 33 years, retiring as treasurer. When Oscar was younger he enjoyed golf and travel, and spending time at his recreational trailer in Woodruff, and his time share in Florida. Oscar was a wonderful Christian family man and an excellent provider. Oscar was a former member of the Lion's Club, and had been active in his church. Oscar was a member at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill, WI. Oscar is survived by his son: Brian Dorn of Golden Valley, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Margaret Dorn, wife: Jean Dorn, son: Steven, and siblings: Minnie, Amelia, Martha, Katherine and Ester. A Memorial Service for Oscar will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11am at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. Rev. David Szeto will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 9am until the time of the service, also at the church. Inurnment will immediately follow the service and will take place at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Merrill VFW Post #1638, at the cemetery.
