Myrtle A. Scheu, age 93, of Merrill, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Woodland Court Elder Services in Merrill, while under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. She was born on January 10, 1925 to the late Emil and Elsie (Kriewald) Radloff in the town of Corning. Myrtle attended elementary school at Trinity Lutheran School in Merrill, and was a Merrill High School graduate. Myrtle worked as a fingerprint classifier for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. She also went to Seattle, WA and worked at the Boeing Company before returning to Merrill, where she married Leonard Scheu on June 21, 1947. Myrtle was a homemaker, but also worked at Hanson Glove & Merrill Woolen Mills. After retiring, she and Leonard moved to Florida in the early 1980’s, and returned to Merrill in the early 1990’s. Myrtle was a friendly person that enjoyed visiting with friends and family, and was described as a social butterfly. She liked to watch the birds at her feeders and was an avid card player. Her favorite card game was 500, and she is lovingly remembered as being somewhat of a “card shark” - she played to win! Myrtle took pride in her many beautiful flower gardens, Leonard helped her get them started and she made them flourish. Myrtle was a very organized, hard-working and detail orientated lady, along with being a devoted wife, a loving mother and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill, and was active in the Altar Guild and Ladies Aid for many years.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 71 years: Leonard Scheu of Merrill, daughters: Mary Ann Heyel of Merrill and Margaret (Dale) Goldthorpe of Edwards, MO, grandsons: Jonathan (Kathryn) Heyel of Wildwood, MO and Matthew (Jennifer) Heyel of Merrill, great grandchildren: Isaiah and Isabella Heyel, sisters: Bernice Pahls and Mavis (Phillip) Smith, both of Merrill, sister-in-law: Eleanor Krause, special family friend Don Heyel, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Wilbert and Lylas Radloff and sister: Ruth Gegner.
