Marlene Essert, 72, of Tomahawk, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born March 1, 1941 in Waukesha to the late Leonard and Charlotte (Teschner) Laak. On December 7, 1984 she married Eugene Essert in Merrill. He survives. Marlene was a 1959 graduate of Merrill Senior high School. She worked at Geiss' Meat Market, the Merrill Cannery and was owner of Club 107. Marlene later worked at Semco in Merrill until her retirement in 2002. In her retirement she worked part time at Hanson's Greenhouse in Rhinelander. Marlene loved flower gardening, watching the animals in the woods around her home, NASCAR racing, HGTV, watching the Green Bay Packers, quilting, cooking and watching her Sophie. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband: Eugene Essert, Tomahawk; two sons: Scott (Sandy) Gipple and Randy (Jodi) Gipple, all of Merrill; two step-sons: Gener (Lynn) Essert and Jay Essert, all of Merrill; one sister: Donna (Tim) Caylor, Merrill; eight grandchildren: Dana, Lea, Karissa, Kasi, Kody, Amber, Lindsey, and Stacey; five great-grandchildren: Konner, Lola, Evie, Willow & Lunayah, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Johnnie Laak. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM on March 28, 2013 at Waid Funeral Home. The Rev. Don King will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Wednesday, March 27 and again from 10-11 AM Thursday before the service all at Waid Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Schley (Dutch Corners). Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
