Marie Wenzlick

October 7, 1926 — September 30, 2009









Marie Wenzlick, 82 of Merrill, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Merrill.  She was born October 7, 1926 in Merrill to the late Bernard and Martha (Hollman) Walenczyk.  She married Norman Laabs on  October 25, 1947.  He died November 27, 1959.  Marie married LaVern Wenzlick on June 29, 1963.  He died on July 4, 1987.



Marie enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, camping and walking.  She liked polka music and dancing and loved to collect deer.  She  was a volunteer at the St. John fair stand and the Crop Walk.  Marie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, Homemakers, the Sweet Adelines, Mother’s Club, Choir and was part of the bell ringers at Bell Tower where she resided.  Marie was self-employed as a house cleaner but earlier in her life she worked in the hospital and Oconomowoc Canning Company.



She is survived by 6 children, Kenny (Penny) Wenzlick of Merrill, Jean (LeRoy) Seehafer of Schofield, Duane (Darlene) Laabs of Tomahawk, Rick (Mary) Laabs of Merrill, Tim Wenzlick of Tomahawk and Tammy (Robert) McCaulley of St. Mary’s, Georgia; daughter in law, Mary Jo Labbs of Park Falls, 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Alice Krueger, Vivian Hommerding and Judy (Vern) Warren; and many other family members and friends.  Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her 2 husbands, Norman Laabs and LaVern Wenzlick; 2 sisters, Joyce and Dorothy Walenczyk; a brother, Bernard Walenczyk, Jr.; 3 sons, Myron, Greg and Larry Laabs; daughter in law, Nancy, a great grandson, Robert John Wenzlick and a great granddaughter, Sydney Laabs.



Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 10:30 AM at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill.  The Rev. David Szeto will officiate.  Friends may call on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Waid Funeral Home Chapel and also from 9:30 until time of services on Saturday at the church.  Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park in Merrill.  Donations may be made in Marie’s memory to St. John Lutheran Church, Bell Tower, T.
