Maria Sosnovske, age 86, of Merrill, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Bell Tower Residence in Merrill, with her family by her side and under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. She was born on May 5, 1934 to the Heron and Regina (Selthofner) Pos in Cabuna, Croatia . Maria met Richard Sosnovske and the two exchanged marriage vows on March 27, 1954 in the town of Harrison. Sadly, he preceded her in death on July 25, 2002.
Maria was a dairy farmer for her entire life, she enjoyed running the family farm and working with her cows and chickens. She had a very strong work ethic. In her younger years, she worked as a cook at the Holy Cross Hospital in Merrill. Maria adored her grandkids and looked forward to the next family outing. Maria spent a lot of time in her flower and vegetable gardens at the farm – she was so proud of her beautiful flowers! Maria enjoyed visiting and playing cards with friends and neighbors. She liked to knit socks and mittens and would make meaningful gifts for family and friends. Maria was a loving and kind lady with a feisty spirit. She will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered.
Maria is survived by her daughter: Gwen (Jeff) Block of Merrill, sons: Rick (Ruth) and Jim (Connie) Sosnovske, both of Gleason, grandchildren: Amber (Steve) Athanasiou, Ashley Spransy and Mandy (Ike) Mattson, great grandchildren: Easton, Corbin, Lily, Macy, Bryce, Owen and Landen, step grandsons: Jeremy and Jamie, step great grandson: Carson and sister: Regina Galambos. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Richard, sisters: Theresa and Sophia, brother: Steve and step sister: Theresa.
To comply with the guidelines and suggestions from the CDC and the Lincoln County Health Department, as well as the interest of public safety, a drive thru visitation for Maria will be held on Friday, June 26, 2020 from 9am to 11am at Waid Funeral Home. Please enter the south driveway of the funeral home. Instructions will be given upon entrance. A private family funeral service will take place in the parking lot following the visitation. Chaplain Rose Heil will officiate. The service will be available at 11am to view via live stream from our website. Burial will take place in the Gleason Cemetery.
