Margie Ann Burkam, age 83, of Merrill, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Our House in Wausau, while under the care of her loving family and Interim Hospice. Margie was born on March 24, 1938 to the late Otto and Emma (Beyer) Bergman in Merrill, WI. She attended and graduated from Merrill High School. Margie met Jack at a dance and the two hit it off right away. They exchanged their marriage vows on July 5, 1956 in Merrill. He survives.
In her younger years, Margie enjoyed doing crafts, knitting, embroidering, and babysitting for some neighborhood children. She worked for Peterson’s and Latzig’s making wreathes and for Kurtzweil’s, Ginseng Field’s. She loved being able to work outdoors and really enjoyed her co-workers. Margie had an incredible work ethic. She also enjoyed gardening at home, whether it was taking care of her geraniums or harvesting vegetables. Margie and Jack were blessed with being able to travel to Israel twice, Italy, Egypt, Bermuda, and Alaska, just to name a few. So many happy and exciting memories were made. Margie also looked forward to family and friend gatherings, where a lot of memories were made as well. She was a member at the Grace Reform Church in Wausau. Margie was proud to be a cancer survivor since 1971. She will be missed by all who knew her, but always in the hearts of her family and friends.
Margie leaves behind her husband of 65 years: Jack Burkam of Merrill, son: Zeb Burkam of Merrill, daughter: Star (Ron) Scherzer of Indiana, grandchildren: Richard (Amber Talbot) Burkam and Dylan Burkam, both of Merrill, Henry (Megan) Mangel of Kentucky, Toni (Ben) Frick, Mathew (Taylor) Scherzer and Paul (Kyla Klem) Scherzer, all of Indiana, 8 great grandchildren with 1 soon to arrive and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 grandson, 1 great grandson, sister: Delaine Oldenberg and brothers: Carl and Otto “Bud” Bergman.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date which will be announced at that time in the Foto News.
A private visitation took place. Margie’s cremated remains will be inurned at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery.
Family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to Interim Hospice for their care and support for Margie and her family in their time of need.
