Leonard W. Benson, age 86 of Merrill, died Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital following a motorcycle accident. Leonard was born April 1, 1927 in Hubbard, Oregon the son of the late George and Florence (Winchester) Benson. Leonard had been married to Beverly Swanson, they were married May 16, 1946, in Baraboo, WI. Leonard had worked for Oscar Mayer Foods from 1946-1980. He served with the Merchant Marine from 1944-1946 and served with the Wisconsin Air National Guard 1953-1959. He truly enjoyed spending time with his special friend Gisele Miller. His hobbies included motorcycling., feeding and watching birds, gardening, going for walks, flying airplanes and he was able to fix anything he was a true handyman. Survivors include: his friend of many years: Gisele Miller, and 5 children: Gary Benson, Pardeville, WI; Joni (Jerry) Kiser, Brenda (Scott) Evans, Marilyn Bendtsen and Rhonda (Polo) Trevino, all of Chattanooga, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Mabel Johnson, of Merrill, Edith Shook, of Irma and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers: John, George, Harold, Norman, Clarence and David and 3 sisters: Margaret Wilson, Nellie Collins, Ethel Griffen and his loving poodle Susie.
