Kermit Iwen, age 82, of Merrill, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 at Pine Crest Nursing Home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. He was born December 14, 1930 in Merrill to the late Charles and Lillian (Graap) Iwen. He and Audrey Plautz were united in marriage in Pine City, MN on June 14, 1958. She preceded him in death February 25, 1994. Kermit attended Plamann School in Merrill. He worked at Marathon Electric for 30 years building motors. Kermit loved his cars and took pride in washing them regularly. He enjoyed gardening and was great at it. In fact, Kermit needed bigger machinery to pull out his carrots! He also enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and ice fishing on Roach Lake. Kermit was a member of the Centuring Marathon Electric. Survivors include two daughters: Sue (Donald) Baker, Wausau, and Linda Stone, Janesville; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two brothers: Donald (Barb) Iwen, Merrill and Arnold (Pat) Iwen, Wausau; two sisters: Nina Schmidt, Wausau and May Woller, Merrill; and a sister-in-law: Delores Iwen, Merrill. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Audrey, and a brother, Charles "Jim" Iwen. Services will be held 1:30 PM Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Waid Funeral Home. Pastor Missy Holdorf will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Merrill Memorial Park.
