Kenneth Kirk Jr, 72, of Merrill, died Monday, September 17, 2012 at Hospice House in Wausau. He was born July 6, 1940 in Wausau to the late Kenneth Sr. & Mary (Fischer) Kirk. On November 17, 1973 he and Marlene Woller were united in marriage in Wausau. Ken attended the University of Wisconsin after graduating high school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 – 1966 as a Sergeant in Military Intelligence. Along with his father, Ken co-owned the French Slipper Shop, now known as the Cobblery. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and cheering on his favorite driver, Carl Edwards. Ken was a devoted Packer and Badger football fan. He had an extensive collection of coins and matchbooks. Ken also enjoyed classic cars, his favorite, his baby, being his 1976 Cutlass. Survivors include his wife: Marlene, Merrill; two children: Laurie (Brian) Ammerman & Linda (special friend, Joe Burger) Symmank; four grandchildren: Michael & Caitlin Fraser, Shane (Anna) Symmank and Ryan Symmank; one great-grandchild: Callen Symmank; one brother: Gary Kirk and one sister: Mary Kirk. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Brad Nelson. A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM Monday, September 24, 2012 at Waid Funeral Home. Friends may call from 1PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family wishes memorials be given to Hospice House in Wausau.
