Kay Lynn (Fehlberg) Simon, 63, of Merrill passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at her home while under the care of her family & Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kay was born on June 21, 1957 in Merrill to the late Leo and Eleanor (Hill) Fehlberg. She graduated from Merrill High School in 1975. On October 6, 1979 she married Jeffrey J. Simon. He survives.
Kay was known for her passion and love for all animals. Growing up Kay was very active in 4-H, where she loved to enter her pencil sketches & flower arrangements and competed in the show ring with her dogs, cattle & horses. Kay spent many years working at the Merrill Veterinary Clinic and running the family dairy farm. She had been presented with the “Lincoln County Farm Wife of the Year” award. She was also a phenomenal dog groomer, who would sometimes spend hours chatting with her customers and because of her extensive knowledge of animals many would often seek out and ask for her advice. Kay was also a lifelong horsewoman. Over the years she taught many how to ride and helped them have the opportunity to own their own horses. This was a special love that she shared with her daughter Lynn, who she took on her first horseback ride at just 6 months old. They spent many hours riding, training and breeding horses and hauling to horse shows and barrel races all over. Kay was one of a kind and will be missed by many, but not forgotten.
Kay is survived by her husband of 41 years: Jeffrey Simon, daughter: Lynn Simon, sisters: Sue (Mike) Kunkel and Sandy (Scott) Gipple, brother: John (Patty) Fehlberg, brother-in-law: Gene (Tammy) Simon, all of Merrill, sister-in-law: Candy Arnold of Madison, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Kay was proceeded in death by her parents, brother: Steve Fehlberg and her mother and father in-law: Eugene and Geraldine Simon.
A Celebration of Life for Kay will be held at a later date.
