Karel Kretlow, age 83, of Merrill, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Pine Crest Nursing Home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. She was born January 24, 1933 in Merrill to the late Eugene and Mabel (Meyer) Rasmussen. On March 28, 1953 she and Arthur were united in marriage. He preceded her in death in April of 1979. Karel attended and graduated from Merrill High School. Karel then worked as a desk clerk at Pine Ridge Motel. She ran an in home day care until her retirement, caring for not only her grandchildren but many of the neighborhood kids as well. You could always find a book near her and when she wasn't reading she enjoyed watching old classic movies on TCM. Karel was a lifelong Democrat and a faithful supporter. She enjoyed a martini a day which kept her young. Karel was a fun loving, outspoken lady who loved being around people. She also enjoyed cooking for the people she invited into her home. Survivors include her two sons: Stephan (Patrice) Kretlow, Brookfield, and Jon (Lynn) Kretlow, Waukegan, IL; daughter-in-law: Linda Kretlow; four grandchildren: Mike, Tim (Amy), Natalie and Olivia; great-grandson: Jackson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Mabel, husband, Arthur, two sons, Kris and Timothy J. Kretlow, and sister, Shirley Lange. Private family services will be held at a later date in Milwaukee where her inurnment will also take place. Special thanks to Pine Crest Nursing Home staff for their many years of care for Karel.
