June Ellen Kriewald, age 84, of Merrill, formerly of Westminster, CO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Aspirus Merrill Hospital. She was born on July 30, 1939, in Merrill, WI, the daughter of Harvey and Catherine (Weigandt) Kriewald.

She was a 1957 graduate of Merrill High School. She graduated from Wisconsin State College, Eau Claire, in 1962 with a B.S. Degree in Education. June began her teaching career at Arrowhead High School in Waukesha then Nicolet High School in Glendale. In 1968, June moved to Colorado where she fell in love with the mountains and taught English at Jefferson High School. She continued her education at the University of Colorado receiving her Master of Arts Degree in Education and Counseling in 1975. She was employed as High School Counselor at Bear Creek and later Stanley Lake High Schools until her retirement in 1996. June moved back to Merrill, Wisconsin in 2017.

June had a quick wit and knack for completing mind game puzzles quickly. She was a great euchre partner and was often found playing board games with her great nieces and nephews. She was famous for her competitive edge. She was an avid reader and a member of several book clubs through the years. She enjoyed watching football and was a loyal Packer fan, even while living in Colorado. June was formerly on golf and bowling leagues, she knit, crocheted and cross-stitched beautiful items for family and friends. She enjoyed visiting casinos and quite often found herself on the winning side of the game she was playing. She and her one-of-a-kind toffee bars will be greatly missed by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Carol Nichols and Phyllis Fausch, brother-in-law: Robert Nichols, Nephew: David Nichols.

June is survived by her brother-in-law: Harlan Fausch, nieces: Julie (Bill) Ratajczyk and Amy Wojtusik, nephews: Steven (Kim) Nichols, Thomas (Dena) Nichols, John (Mary Jo) Nichols and Matthew Nichols, great nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends.

Private family services for June will be held at a later date. Burial will be held in Merrill Memorial Park. 

A special thank you to the staff of Pine Crest Nursing Home and Aspirus Merrill Hospital staff for the care given to June.
