Joyce D. Wendt, 84, of Merrill, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010 at her home. She was born August 3, 1926 in Merrill to the late Kurt & Dora (Frantz) Jopke. Joyce married John "Jack" Wendt on December 1, 1945 in Merrill. He survives.
Joyce was a 1943 graduate of Merrill Senior High School. She was an Administrative Assistant for the Lincoln County Zoning Office for 18 A½ years. In her retirement, she served as Treasurer and Day Manager for Bethesda in Wausau. Joyce was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid, helping with banquets, weddings and funeral dinners. She was also involved with the Mother?s Club, Altar Guild, and served as an IMC worker at St. John School as well as Financial Secretary for the church. Joyce also served as Treasurer for the Town of Scott and was involved in the Lincoln County Association for Retarded Citizens. She enjoyed gardening, especially gladiolas, following all of her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's school activities. Joyce often accompanied her family on numerous hunting activities throughout the West, Canada and Alaska.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Wendt of Merrill; three sons: Jerry (Rita) Wendt, Joel (Sue) Wendt, Jim (Cathy) Wendt, all of Merrill; six daughters: Jan (Bill Hoeflin) Halverson of Austin, TX, Jill (Mike) LaBarbera of Eau Claire, WI, Julie (Don) Gehrmann of Merrill, Jeanne (Joe Giemza) Brown of Whitehall, WI, Jenny (Brian) McHenry of Rochester, MN, and JoLee Wendt of Merrill; one brother: Kurt (Yvonne) Jopke of Hibbing, MN; two sisters: Mary Summers of Merrill and Jane (Rich) Cooper of Waterford, MI; 24 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, November 11, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church. The Rev. Alden Beversdorf will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 -8 Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Waid Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Merrill Memorial Park. Waid Funeral is assisting the family with arrangements.
