Jeanette Harkner

Jeanette Harkner, age 88, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Pine Crest Nursing Home while under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice. She was born on February 15, 1928 to the late Henry and Sophie (Tobalski) Krahn in the town of Merrill, WI. Jeanette attended St. Francis Catholic School in Merrill, WI. She met Fred Harkner and the two exchanged vows on April 14, 1945 in Merrill WI. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2004. Jeanette and her husband owned Harkner's Bait Shop and then went on to work at Anson Gilkey until her retirement. Jeanette enjoyed boating, fishing and trips to the casino. She loved music and liked to sing, and she was especially fond of dancing the jitterbug with her spry husband, Fred. She delighted in spending time with her family and her dogs. Jeanette was a loving and caring woman that will be sadly missed. Jeanette is survived by her sons: Fred Jr. (Bonnie) Harkner of Merrill and Bob (Joanne) Harkner of Eagle River, daughters: Shirley Klug of Merrill, Judy (Richard) Henson of Merrill, Jan (Jim) Abbs of Wawaka, IN, Tammy (John) Degner of Merrill, 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 6 great great-grandchildren, sisters: Lynn Thompson and Dorothy Sanborn. She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Sophie Krahn, her husband: Fred E. Harkner Sr.; a son: Timothy Harkner; son-in-law: Daniel Klug; a sister: Lucille Holzem; and a brother: Les Krahn. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and again on Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., all at Waid Funeral Home. The burial will immediately follow the visitation and take place at St. Francis Cemetery in Merrill on Thursday, September 15, 2016. Family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to the staff at Pine Crest Nursing Home and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for their excellent care and compassion shown towards Jeanette and would also like to thank Waid Funeral Home for their assistance with arrangements.
