James Hightower

James Elbert Hightower, age 76, of Irma Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, January 27, 2017. He was born August 26, 1940 in Atlanta, Texas. He was the son of Addie Knight and Ira Hightower. James served in the United States Army. He worked as a CNA at Mount View Nursing Home in Wausau where he eventually retired. James also worked 15 years as a dedicated youth counselor for Lincoln Hills Boys School. He enjoyed spending time on his property especially on his back 40, additionally he loved fishing and maintaining his yard. He cherished spending time with his family, he loved home-cooked meals, and Thanksgiving held a special place in his heart. James will be dearly missed. Survivors include his children, Robbin(Walter) Carter of Chicago; James Hightower, Jr. of Canton, New York; Jeff Hightower of Wausau; and grandchildren: Philip(Lauren)Gritzmacher, Jr. of Madison; Ashley Hightower of Antigo; Makiesha Roberts of Rhinelander; Amber Hightower of Antigo; Syndeny(Kendall)Giles of Denton, TX; Kennedy Carter of Chicago; Dane Carter of Chicago; Caiden Hightower of Canton NY; five great grandchildren; and sisters: Verda Ruth of Wichita Kansas; Nancy Frierson of Wichita Kansas; Ruby Roberson of Wichita Kansas and Velma Knignt of Atlanta, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents Ira Hightower and Addie Knight; two daughters: Jacqueline Hightower in infancy and Denise Hightower; two brothers: Willie Hightower and Sam Hightower, Sr and his sister Iva Lee Jackson. Services for James will be on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Waid Funeral Home. Pastor Kim Swen will officiate. Military honors will be performed by VFW Post 1638 at the funeral home.
