Jack Faye Garihee, Wausau; died on May 23, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital following surgery for a fall he experienced at home. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on May 5, 1922 to John P. and Mathilda (Waschik) Garihee. He grew up in Merrill, WI and lived there most of his life. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII. He married Carol Schenzel in 1948. They later divorced. He married Marion (Roets) Hevey in 1983 and lived in Wausau. In his earlier years he was a Golden Gloves Boxer and played with the Fromm Foxes. Currently he was a member of the Silver M Club. Jack was a life-long employee of Ward Paper. Jack's love of aviation involved becoming a private pilot, belonging to the Civil Air Patrol, being a member of the EAA, building planes, and being a flight instructor at the Merrill Airport. He also enjoyed water recreation be it swimming, canoeing, or water skiing. Camping, spending time walking in Council Grounds State Park, and taking trips out west to visit his friend Bill Bessey were also some favorite activities. Survivors include a sister, Patricia Johnstone, Brookville, PA; children: Sharon (Marty) Anderson and John Garihee, Merrill; Barb (Bruce) Hinz , Eau Claire, WI; Mary (Garry) Olson, Gleason. Grandchildren are: Chris Anderson, Shawn Semling, Heath Garihee, Jessica Anderson, Carly Hinz, Scott Olson, Dave Olson, John Garihee Jr., and Neil Hockett. He is further survived by 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are step-children: Pam (Eugene) Rozmenoski, Irma; John Hevey, Wausau; Peter Hevey, Merrill and step-grandchild Nick Hevey. A private family picnic to commemorate Jack's life will be held at Council Grounds.
