Ildefonso Asinas

Ildefonso L. "Joey" Asinas, 80, Merrill, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill. He was born January 23, 1931 in the Philippines to the late Emeterio and Mercedez (Letaba) Asinas. Ildefonso grew up in the Philippines where he survived the Japanese occupation. He graduated from San Beda High School in Manila. Ildefonso went on to the University of Santo Tomas of the Philippines where he earned his medical degree. In 1957, he moved to the US and worked as a physician in Milwaukee. Ildefonso touched many lives during the 40 years he practiced medicine there. After his retirement, he moved to Merrill where he still kept in close touch with his brothers and sisters he loved so dearly. Ildefonso truly loved spending time with his family, reminiscing and telling jokes non-stop. He will always be remembered as a genuinely caring and selfless individual. Survivors include his two sons: James (Susan) Asinas, Coarsegold, CA, and Robert (Jillian) Asinas, Merrill; his lifelong companion Darlene Asinas, Merrill; eight grandchildren: Charity Joy (Matthew) McCrory, South Milwaukee, David Potter, Fresno, CA, Tamera Rollf, Vacaville, CA, Carlie, Cole, Bryce, Blake, and Ian Asinas, all of Merrill; four great grandchildren: Aidan, Kyler, Maddison and Coltn; two sisters: Rorie (Eddie) Sevilla, NJ, and Lillian (Dick) Croghan, Albuquerque, NM; and brother: Emeterio (Beth) Asinas Jr, Philippines. He was preceded in death by his parents. Private family services will be held at a later date. An inurnment will be in the Philippines with his parents.
