Henry P. Zimick, age 78, of Merrill, passed away May 7, 2011 at his home. He was born August 19, 1932 in Wausau, the son of the late Henry Sr. and Mildred (Cumberland) Zimek. He married the former Jeanette Lilla on June 2, 1956, in Wausau. She survives. Henry was a Korean War veteran having served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 through 1952. He was a man of many talents. Henry was a machinist by trade. He raised fancy pigeons for 65 years and gave talks on them to school children at the Merrill Area School Forest. Henry loved to play his guitar and sing in his younger days. He was an avid rock hound and enjoyed taking trips to Lake Superior to hunt for agates. Henry also loved to go on nature hikes and loved to hunt and fish. He was very interested in Native American culture and liked going to rendezvous. Henry was an avid woodcarver, specializing in ducks, birds and decoys. He taught wood carving classes. He also worked with gems and minerals, making gem jewelry and did rock hound jewelry silver- smithing. Henry had been a boy scout den leader. He wasn't one to sit around and liked to stay busy. In the fall he loved to watch the Packer Games with his wife, Jeanette. Henry is survived by his wife, Jeanette of Merrill. 3 daughters; Sue (Jack Bradley)Schumacher of Menasha, Debi (Johnny) Higgins of Tomahawk, and Bernadette (Mark) Stalkopf of Plymouth. 2 sons: Paul Zimick of Tangent, OR and Steven (Colleen) Zimick of Tigard, OR. 2 sisters; Karen (Roger) Beeber of Weston and Sandy (Dean) Obey of Spencer. 2 brothers; Richard Zimick of Colorado and Jim (Tina) Zimick of Wausau. 1 grandson, Michael vonSchrader of Tomahawk. 8 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be given to your local food pantry.
