Helen Mathwich

Helen Adeline Mathwich, 90, of Merrill, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Pine Crest Nursing Home. She was born November 29, 1920 in Wausau to the late Julius and Hilda (Janke) Plautz. On July 3, 1941, she married Kenneth Mathwich in Naugart, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1998. Helen farmed with her husband in the Town of Berlin until retiring in the late 1980's. She also had worked for a couple years at Oconomowoc Canning Company during the late 60's and early 70's. Helen had been a lifetime member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Naugart until moving to Merrill. She was most recently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. Helen loved Polka music and dancing. In her earlier years she loved to cook and raise flowers, especially roses. Survivors include one son: Lyle (JoAnn) Mathwich, Beloit; one granddaughter: Leigh Mathwich, DePere, WI; and one grandson: Jeremy Mathwich, Monona, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Kenneth. Services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Visitation will be 4 - 8 PM Friday, May 20, 2011 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 9:30 - 10:30 AM before the service at the church. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery, Naugart. The family requests memorials be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
