Gregory A. Perkins, 60, recently of Florence, OR, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2012, in Warrenville, IL, surrounded by his family. He was born November 16th, 1951, in Phillips, WI, to Marion and the late Arthur Perkins. He moved with his family to Merrill, WI, in 1962 and graduated from Newman High School, Wausau, WI, in 1970. He received an Associates of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County; a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from the University of Oregon in 1979; and a Juris Doctor degree from the Lewis and Clark School of Law in Portland, OR, in 1985. He practiced bankruptcy law for many years and was a member of the bar of Montana and Oregon. He was also admitted before the US District Court of Appeals, and the US District Court for Oregon and Montana Districts. Greg loved his Savior and was an active member of St. Andrew's Church of Florence, OR. He was inspired by Pastor Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church, Houston, TX, and was fond of saying that next week, we would all be, "healthier, wealthier, and wiser." During his high school years, Greg played Junior Legion baseball in Merrill. In later years, Greg enjoyed watching baseball and football, especially the Atlanta Braves and the Oakland Raiders.
He is survived by his mother, Marion Perkins of Merrill, WI, and his two sisters, Jean Perkins of Gladstone, MI; and Kathleen Perkins (Kent Archie) of Warrenville, IL. He is also survived by two nieces, Madelaine Archie of Tucson, AZ, and Rachel Archie of Warrenville, IL; his aunts Ruth Benson of Irma, WI, and Grace Curtis of Phoenix, AZ, as well as many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, William Albert, and by his father, Arthur.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill, WI, at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 16th. Fr. Jim Horath will officiate. Family and friends may call at Waid Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 15th from 6-8 PM and again Thursday from 8:30 AM to 9:30AM. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 PM on Wednesday.
