Frank J. Sus Jr., passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023, after a long battle with cancer and heart failure. Frank was born on September 16, 1943, to the late Frank J. Sr. and Rose Sus in the city of Racine, WI. He grew up in Racine, WI, where he graduated from Horlick High School in 1961. Frank met the love of his life, Miss Dawn (Willis) at Don’s Outlet where he bagged groceries at her register. He joined the Air Force in 1963, and asked Dawn to marry him. They flew to South Rislip Air Force Base in Middlesex, England, where Frank would be stationed and they would be married at The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the District of Uxbridge County of Middlesex on June 20, 1964. While in England, they would be blessed with the birth of their first daughter, Carrie-Ann. They would return to the states in 1967. He began working at Twin Disc Inc. and spent the next 21 years working as a machinist and supervisor. During those years, Frank attended Carthage College and received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and his Masters in Accounting. Frank and Dawn were blessed with two more children, Frank J. III and Kellie Marie. Over the years, Frank enjoyed playing sports with all his friends, spending time with family and watching his children grow into adults and giving him many grandchildren. In 1988, Frank and Dawn moved to Elcho, WI. They started Eight Reasons Group Home and Sus Transfer in Antigo, WI. He officially retired in 2014. Frank enjoyed time with family, fishing, watching NASCAR and socializing. He joined the American Legion of Merrill and became the treasurer. He found a dear friend in Reinhold Lenz and the two of them would be at The Veterans Cup of Coffee on Wednesdays, weather and health permitting. He was also a member of The Man of Honor.
Frank is survived by three children: Carrie-Ann (Fred) Schroeder, Frank J. (Shelly) Sus and Kellie (Greg) Nowack, 14 grandchildren, brother-in-law: James (Sue) Willis, sisters-in-law: Pam (Mike) Scholz and Edith Slater, many nieces and nephews and special friends: Elmer and Ericka Giese, Susie Thomas, Reinie Lenz, Roberta Schwelitz, Wayne Detlaff and Tom and Veronica Thomas. A special thank you to his sidekick and granddaughter, Anna Lorraine, for all the help and laughs she has given her Papa over the last few years. He was preceded in death by his parents, sweet wife: Dawn Sus, 2 children, sister: Susan Obry, sisters-in-law: Laura Rouse and Tracey Detlaff and brothers-in-law: Bob Rouse and Ken Slater.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 1pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Wausau, WI. Military honors will take place at the church immediately following the service.
As an expression of sympathy, memorials may be sent to Kellie Nowack, W8713 State Highway 64, Merrill, WI, 54452. All donations will be divided between the Never Forgotten Honor Flight and The Veterans Cup of Coffee Club.
