Ervin Uerling

Ervin Paul Uerling, age 71, of Gleason, went to be with Jesus, October 22, 2013. He was born September 5, 1942 to Clarence and Alveria (Mengel) Uerling at Colby, WI. After graduation from Colby High School he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Texas and Germany between 1960-1963. He then served from 1976-1980 in the Wisconsin National Guard. On October 15, 1966 he married Caroline Hardt at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Athens, WI. She Died in June of 1999. He lived in Stratford Wisconsin from 1966-2002. Ervin was a member of Stratford Recycling Center, Stratford Historical Society and a lifetime member of the Stratford VFW Post 6352 where he served one term as president and several years as Quartermaster. He also was chosen as Stratford's Finest Citizen for his acts of volunteerism at nursing homes and his church. On October 26, 2002 he married Nancy Stevens at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stratford. They lived in Gleason. Ervin was a member of Gleason's Lions Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Nancy and Ervin enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and also took a trip to Europe. He also served with the American Red Cross and was deployed twice to New Jersey for Hurricane Sandy relief and for the floods in Illinois. Ervin and Nancy also responded to fire response assistance to displaced families. He also went on mission trips to Mexico with members of St. John Baptist Catholic Church of Bloomville. Ervin was awarded by the Blood Center of Central Wisconsin for donating over 100 pints of blood. Ervin was an avid reader from a young age. His siblings gave him the nickname, "Prof" for professor as he was always seeking new information. In his younger years, Ervin liked to deer hunt with his son-in-laws, David and Roger, brothers, Peter and Don and nephews, Mike, Dennis and Mark Uerling at the family cottage, he also hunted with his step son, Brad in Gleason. In later years, Ervin enjoyed fishing with his brother, Don. He enjoyed spending time with his children and especially his grandchildren whom he constantly taught how to build things. Ervin is survived by his wife, Nancy of Gleason; daughters, Elaine (David) Dellvon of Wausau, and Gloria (Roger) Manicke, of Stratford; step daughter, Barbara (Michael) Ritchie of Merrill; stepson, Brad (fiancé Katie Lee) Stevens of Merrill; seven grandchildren, Joy, Joanna, Jamie, Brandon, Joshua, Derek and Austin; five brothers; Donald (Maryann) Uerling, Colby, Peter (Theresa) Uerling of Arpin, James Uerling of Princeton, Tom (Karen) Uerling of Tacoma, Washington, and Russell (Christine) Uerling of Olympia, Washington; five sisters; Mae (Leroy) Mattison of Phillips, Pat (Bill) Meyers of Curtiss, Janet Lawniczak of Green Bay, Rose Uerling of Scotsville, Michigan and Jenny (Brian) Shannon of Independence, Iowa. In addition to his parents and his wife, Caroline, Ervin is preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and John, and sister, June. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Saturday, October 26 at St. John Baptist Catholic Church in Bloomville. Father Don Kania will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM Friday, October 25 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10-11 AM before the service Saturday at the church. Visitation will be from 2-3 at the Stratford VFW. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Stratford. Donations may be made in Ervin's memory to the American Red Cross. Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life.
