Emma E. DeWitt, 85, Merrill, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill.
Emma was born December 6, 1924 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to the late John and Ethel (Hicks) McGuire. She attended school in Java, South Dakota and after graduating high school went on to Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Emma was an elementary school teacher in South Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin. She loved spending time with her family and friends, playing cribbage, activities at Pine Crest, especially bingo, solitaire on the computer and playing the Wii, working on her word puzzles books. In her earlier years she loved to travel. Emma attended Bible Presbyterian Church when she could.
Survivors include her daughter: Emily (Louis) Kassien, Merrill; grandchildren: Matthew and Michelle, Merrill; 1 brother: George McGuire, Toronto, Canada; 1 cousin: Calvin Hicks, Las Cruses, NM; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father: John McGuire; mother: Ethel, who died one week after she was born; 1 sister: Jean Hurley, and many other relatives.
Services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 4:00 PM at Bible Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Robert Smallman will officiate. Friends may call from 3 – 4 PM at the church.
