Davis Kroening

Davis Kroening, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at the Mount View Care Center in Wausau, WI, under the care of hospice. He was born on April 26, 1930 to the late Herman and Emma (Hollinger) Kroening in Wausau, WI, where he was raised on the family farm. He attended and graduated from Wausau High School, then attended college to further his education. Davis met and fell in love with Patricia Miller, and the two exchanged vows on June 4, 1949 in Wausau, WI. She survives. Davis enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country from April 2, 1952 to March 5, 1954, where he was honorably discharged. He served as a Corporal in the Korean War. After Davis returned from the service, he bought the Jaeger farm which he operated from 1954-1966. For 8 years, he had a franchise for cattle trucking, after that he continued to farm in Merrill until his retirement. Davis enjoyed farming and had been doing it all of his life. He owned and operated D&D Livestock and Kroening Livestock. When he took a break from working on the farm, he would spend time enjoying the outdoors, whether it was going fishing, hunting and camping – or just enjoying being at their cottage. Davis would travel to Las Vegas twice a year to go gambling. He enjoyed playing cards and cherished the special friendships that he made with his fellow cardplayers. Davis was a loving man, even opening his home to care for foster children. He will be sadly missed. Davis is survived by his wife, Patricia of Wausau; daughter, Debbie(Dana) Garber , Merrill; son, Mark(Peggy) Kroening, Merrill; grandchildren: Gerald(Lori)Garber, Wausau; Brenda(Lonnie)James, Merrill; Tanya Kroening(fiancé Matt Robl), Merrill; Ashley(Mike) Dornstriech, Rothschild; six great-grandchildren and one step great-grandson; sisters: Inga Borchardt, Eileen Kroening, and Hazel Eckel all of Wausau; along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Emma Kroening; brother, Eldro Kroening, and an infant grandson, Todd Kroening. A Funeral Service for Davis will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 2pm at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in the town of Pine River. Pastor Greg Laska will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 4pm-7pm at Waid Funeral Home, and again on Friday, August 5, 2016, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in the town of Pine River, beginning at 1pm and will continue until the time of the service. Burial will take place at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery following the service. Military honors will be performed by the Merrill VFW Post #1638 at the cemetery.
