Clifford F. Gatterman
Clifford F. Gatterman, 86, 3450 Bridlewood Dr., Plover, WI, a former Merrill, WI resident, died October 8, 2010 at Ministry St. Michael?s Hospital in Stevens Point, with his family at his side.
Mr. Gatterman was born February 25, 1924, Merrill, a son of the late William Gatterman and Cecelia Templin.
He was married to Helen Gaedeke in 1946. She survives.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army 641st Engineer Camouflage Co. in World War II 1943-1946, serving in New Guinea, the Philippines, Luzon, and the occupation of Japan.
He was employed at Ward Paper Company for 7 years before starting his own business, Gatterman?s Poultry Farm, which he and his wife ran from 1955-1976. He also logged timber for many years, up until he was 76 years old. In addition, he experimented with many projects including raising pigs and Black Angus cattle, growing mushrooms, and building his own man-made lake in the New Wood Wildlife Area.
Leisure activities centered around bow and gun hunting at his land in New Wood and fishing at several lakes in Northern Wisconsin.
Survivors include his wife, one son, William (Pat) Gatterman, Waukesha; three daughters, Kathleen (Edward) Martinsen, Stevens Point, Christine (Ronald) Weseloh, Custer, and Lauri Gatterman,CA; one sister, Alice Alberg, Merrill; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and five step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard; and two sisters, Dorothy Hennig and Lydia Byerly.
Friends may call from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at the Waid Funeral Home in Merrill. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, October 12, 2010, also at the Waid Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Merrill Memorial Park.
