Bernice A. Tesky, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill, while under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. She was born on October 18, 1930 to the late Frederick and Anna (Berndt) Krause in the town of Corning. Bernice attended school in Merrill. She married Donald Tesky on April 10, 1948 in the town of Corning at St. Paul’s Church. Sadly, he preceded her in death on October 17, 1994. Together, they raised 6 children and lived in Merrill.
Bernice was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She had also done some housekeeping in one of the Stange buildings in Merrill, as well as working at Merrill Manufacturing Company. Bernice had also attended vocational school in Merrill. She was a friendly, kind and respectful woman that would always have a smile on her face. Bernice would look forward to spending time with her family, whether it was picking berries, picking agates, playing cards with her siblings or fishing; she enjoyed life. Bernice was an avid gardener and would spend a lot of time out in her vegetable gardens. She enjoyed music and had a beautiful voice, always singing along to the radio. Bernice always had a meal ready for her family and made sure that everyone was taken care of, and she cherished her time spent with her grandchildren. She truly had a servant’s heart. Bernice will be missed, but lovingly remembered.
Bernice is survived by her sons: Keith and Kal Tesky, both of Merrill, daughters: Kerry (Mark) Leppo of Maryland and Kara (John Plautz) Tesky of Merrill and grandchildren: Zachary and Kaleb Tesky, Nichole Tesky-Srb, Sam Freitas and Jonathan Leppo. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband: Donald Tesky, sons: Kim and Kirk Tesky and her siblings: George, Fred, Alvin, David, Loretta, Dorothy and Alma.
A private family service will be held at Waid Funeral Home in Merrill. Rev. Lucas Williams will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Corning. The service will be recorded and may be viewed on our website.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernice’s name may be directed to the St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ Choir/Music Fund. The family wishes to extend a thank you for the support and care that Bernice received from the staff at Pine Crest Nursing Home and from Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.
