Arthur Plautz

Arthur R. Plautz, 92, Merrill, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill. He was born September 20, 1918 in Merrill to the late John and Laura (Engel) Plautz. Art married Rose Marie Luedtke on January 14, 1956 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church – Naugart. Art was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Merrill High School in 1936. In his younger years, Art helped out on the family farm and did plowing for neighbors. He then worked for Merrill Candy Company. Art retired from Ward Paper Mill on April 11, 1983. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and relatives who needed it. Art enjoyed playing sheepshead, 31 and other card games and liked going to the casino. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Packers and Brewers. Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie, Merrill; children, Bryan (Linda) Plautz, Merrill, and Bruce (Marcia) Plautz, Stevens Point; grandchildren, Brandon (Jody) Plautz and Briana Plautz; one great-grandchild, Aubrey Plautz; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Lillian Schult, Myrtle Zastrow, Ila Plautz, Hazel Maas and Vera Vonderheid, and two brothers, Ellsworth Plautz and John Plautz Jr. Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Brian Stolarczyk will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm Friday, July 15, 2011 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10 – 11 am Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Merrill Memorial Park. The family requests no flowers and any memorials be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
