Alyce Peterson

Alyce Peterson, 95, of Merrill, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Woodland Court Elder Service under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. She was born January 14, 1917 to the late Charles & Ethel (Jones) Sheldon. On May 8, 1942 she married Arne Peterson in Rockford Illinois. He preceded her in death December 9, 2006. Alyce was a 1935 graduate of Rockford Central High School and attended Rockford College. After marrying Arne, she became a home maker. Alyce was an active member of River Bluff Auxiliary and also a charter member of Beth Eden Church in Rockford. She and Arne moved to Merrill to be near their grandchildren in the early 1990's. Alyce was a member of Bible Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Bethany Guild. Alyce was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed family, traveling, camping, sewing and knitting. Survivors include her daughter, Ada Shales, Merrill; two grandchildren: Christopher (Melanie) Shales, and Lizzie (Jake) Kriewald; two nieces: Louise (Eugene) Peterson and Lucille Johnson, and one nephew: Michael Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arne, son, Alan Peterson, and son-in-law, Tom Shales. Funeral Services will be held 1:30 PM on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Broadway Covenant Church in Rockford, IL. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM at the church. The Rev. Robert Smallman will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Rockford, IL. The family requests memorials be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
