Alberta Montabon

November 23, 1930 — February 28, 2013

Alberta "Sue" Montabon, 82, of Gleason, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Woodland Court under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. She was born November 23, 1930 to the late Albert & Marie (Tejacik) Oldenburg in Antigo. On May 16, 1960 she and Kermit Montabon were united in marriage. Sue was a 1949 graduate of Antigo High School. She later attended business school in Milwaukee where she earned a degree in accounting. Sue then worked for Consolidated Foods in Milwaukee. After her marriage to Kermit, they moved to the Chicago area and lived there for about 10 years. They then moved to Gleason where they purchased the bowling alley from Kermit's father. Together, they owned and operated the bowling alley for 30 years until selling it in 2000. Sue was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, the Gleason Lion/Lioness club and the Merrill Eagles club. She led the fight against removing the Prairie Dells dam. Sue loved to bowl and was instrumental in getting area bowlers to go to national tournaments. She helped institute Junior league bowling programs and Special Olympic benefit bowling tournaments. Sue and Kermit enjoyed raising Great Danes and Cocker Spaniels. Most of all, she loved her family. Survivors include her children: Suzanne Montabon, Las Vegas, and Bill Montabon, Gleason; grandson: Kevin Montabon; 3 sisters; Genevive Jankowski of Antigo, Marie (Ray) Hales of St. Louis Bay, MS, and Jane Oldenburg of Antigo, and. 2 brothers; Dale (Linda) Oldenburg of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and John Oldenburg of Montgomery, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit and a grandson, Robert Montabon; 2 sisters, Myrna and Rosalind and a brother, Albert. Services will be held 1 PM Monday, March 4, 2013 at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Gleason. Rev. Greg Laska will officiate. Friends may call from 10 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Merrill Memorial Park. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. The family requests memorials be given to the Gleason Lions Club.
