Mark Wiesneski, age 53, of Merrill passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday June 12, 2009, under the care of Aspirus Hospice and Comfort Care, after a ten year battle with cancer. His attitude toward his illness was an inspiration to all who knew him.  Mark was born on August 15, 1955 in Merrill to the late Paul and Virginia (Sczygelski) Wiesneski. He married Elizabeth (Betsy) Meier on July 12, 1975 in Merrill. She survives him.




Mark was a 1973 graduate of Merrill Senior High School. He attended NTC and earned degrees in Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Design. He was in Sales / Engineering for Agra Industries Inc. in Merrill since 1999. Mark was a life long member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Merrill where he had served on the Parish Council and as the Parish Council President. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Mark was active in scouting, having been a Cub Scout leader and Boy Scout Board member. Mark was a member of the Tom Kita Chara Lodge - Order of the Arrow. He served on the United Way Allocations Committee. He enjoyed shooting firearms, playing cards, attending car shows and gun shows. He was very proud of his gun collection and enjoyed driving his hot-rod and motorcycle. He also enjoyed watching the Packers and Brewers play. Mark loved to sing along with any music, especially in church -- loudly.




He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betsy) of Merrill. One daughter, Jill (Justin) Patchin of Eau Claire, 2 sons, Joseph and Jeffrey of Merrill. A sister, Janet (Bruce) Schaefer and a brother, Paul (Renae) all of Merrill.  2 half-sisters, Rose Hehling of Merrill and Florence Wic of Little Rock, AK and a half-brother, Leonard (Teddy) Wiesneski of Menomonie Falls, WI. Honorary grandchildren, Anna, Amaris and Emily Wiesneski. His mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nancy and Leroy Meier of Merrill and numerous nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Paul Wiesneski and his grandparents.




Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday June 16, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Merrill. The Rev. James Horath will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4 PM until 8 PM Monday at the Waid Funeral Home, Merrill, and again on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the hour of services at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.




In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the St. Francis Parish Nurse Fund.
